Capturing the magic of surprise proposals is such a sweet part of my job, and Devin and Kat’s engagement proposal at Freedom Park in Atlanta was truly special.

The Proposal Plan

Devin, the mastermind behind the plan, arranged a weekend that Kat would remember forever. What started as an ordinary Saturday morning market visit turned into a beautiful surprise. Kat loves the colors of autumn and Freedom Park was perfect for its fall vibes. It set the stage for a memorable moment.

As we strolled through the park, Devin popped the question, and Kat’s genuine joy was one of the most heartfelt reactions I’ve witnessed. Moments like this define documentary-style photography. They disappeared into their own world as they embraced each other through laughter and tears.

What added a fun twist to the story was Kat knowing she’d get engaged—just not exactly when. The unpredictability of the moment made it even more special.

The Beauty of Freedom Park

Freedom Park, with its red-drenched trees, became the perfect backdrop for this love story. The use of film gave the photos a nostalgic feel, capturing the real connection between Devin and Kat. Although Freedom Park is one of the largest and most well-known art parks in Atlanta, Georgia – but that day, all eyes were on Kat and Devin.

Shooting on 35mm film allowed me to focus on the smaller details while medium-format film enhanced the sharp, rich colors of a scene one could only dream of.

This Atlanta surprise engagement proposal in the fall was more than just pictures; it was about telling a love story. The personal connection I share with the couple, having known Kat since high school, made it even more meaningful.

In the end, photography is about freezing moments that become cherished memories. Devin and Kat’s surprise engagement proposal was a beautiful chapter in their love story, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it. I can’t wait to be a part of their November wedding next year!
